In CNC (computer numerical controlled) cutting the plasma table is used to cut steel of different thicknesses without producing metal chips. By ejecting an inert gas from a nozzle while producing an electrical arc through the gas to the surface of the metal a portion of the ejected gas is turned into plasma. The plasma is hot enough to melt the metal and the force of the gas is sufficiently great to blow the molten metal away from the cut. This CNC technology provides greater flexibility to cut diverse shapes “on demand” based on instructions downloaded directly in the machine’s controls. The result is a precision cut which cannot be duplicated in any other way.
